During the design of the 750 kip drilling rig, ENSIGN indicated that they required a very quick rig-up of the concealment. DAIR reviewed the concealment and investigated the handling requirements to lift the assembled 3 sided structure and rotate it from the horizontal position to the vertical position, and then raise it and mount it to the rig. A three dimensional computer lift plan was created so that boom extension, boom angle, working radius, and counter-weight size could be determined. This aided in the selection of the crane size along with the design of the required spreader beams, slings, shackles and lifting lugs.
A three crane lift was required due to the lack of structural strength of the concealment. Additionally, the client was very concerned with rotating the concealment from the horizontal position to the vertical position in a controlled manner.
